STP for an Existing Building
An existing building in North India had to operate 24*7 without outage. It faced a problem of sewage water overflowing because the existing soil manhole was overfilled. People found it difficult to work in the building because of foul smell. Qpro was engaged as consultant to solve this problem. We proposed installing a Sewage Treatment Plant ( STP) to address this issue.
We compared the two technologies available for STP -Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) and Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor ( MBBR). We proposed MBBR type 5 KLD capacity for this site. so that water stagnation can be eliminated and sewage water reversing to the sanitary fixtures also can be avoided. In MBBR technology STP, sewage water can be efficiently treated and post water treatment it can be dewatered safely with low energy consumption.
MBBR design is made of an activated sludge aeration system. The sludge is collected on the plastic carriers which have a large internal surface area. The surface area in the carriers optimizes the contact of water, air, and the bacteria. MBBR activated sludge is the application of MBBR media to an overloaded treatment plant when upgrading. This process is employed for the removal of organic substances, nitrification, and denitrification. Since treated water is meeting all BOD/COD parameters prescribed by Pollution control board of India (PCB) hence we recommended client to use the treated wastewater for flushing toilet lines, however client chosen to leave treated water of STP directly to municipal sewer line .
The STP was installed at the site, and it is working without any issues.
