Enhancing Fire Safety Compliance in Office Buildings
We recently encountered a fire safety concern in an office building in Bangalore. The 1-meter-wide HVAC supply air ducts were installed throughout all common corridors, but the sprinklers were positioned above the ducts. This arrangement could obstruct the sensing and operation of the sprinklers during a fire, potentially compromising their effectiveness.
Our Solution
We have proposed a design modification to address this issue and ensure compliance with the IS 15105 sprinkler installation code. We recommend adding sprinkler protection beneath the HVAC supply air ducts along their entire length.
This modification aligns with Clause 9.12.3 of the IS 15105 code, which mandates additional sprinkler coverage for ducts greater than 1 meter in width. By implementing this change, we enhance the building’s fire protection system and ensure full regulatory compliance. This results in a smoother approval process and, most importantly, reinforces the safety of the building's occupants.
At Qpro, we remain committed to providing optimal fire safety solutions while meeting industry standards and regulatory requirements.
